ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Bert Silva currently lives on the central California coast. A former smoker, he feels blessed sailing his sloop through the tobacco-free air that blows over the Pacific Ocean. His cartoons have appeared in The Saturday Evening Post , Playboy Magazine , The National Enquirer , Western Boatman , True West , Technical Stocks & Commodities , Research Magazine , Woman's World , and regularly in The Nameless Newsletter , a local publication on addiction.

Mr. Silva smoked for 20 years. He worked in animation at Disney Studios and later freelanced cartoons to magazines in New York laboring over a drawing board with a pencil or pen in one hand and a cigarette in the other. He almost burned to death in a tobacco-related fire.

Silva considers himself very lucky and maybe fated to do this little book.

"Altogether we are witnessing one of the great tragedies in human history—In the twentieth century tobaccosis mortality caused by the smoking, chewing and snuffing of tobacco reached its epidemic zenith in the United States and killed more than 100 million people worldwide."
